In the recent years, AEI has been actively looking into renewable power projects in order to have a balanced energy mix in its portfolio and reduce carbon footprint, by studying various renewable energy sources such as solar, hydro, biomass, wind, and waste. Indonesia’s intention to expand renewables and achieve net zero emission by 2060 has further encouraged the company to explore opportunities in Indonesia’s green economy and diversify into greener businesses. The company supports the perspective that carbon reduction initiatives through transitioning into new and renewable energy and accelerating technology-based green economy will only bring positive changes to the nation. In 2022, AEI announced the new classification of its pillars of growth, with the Adaro Green as one pillar to build a bigger and greener Adaro.

Renewable projects as carbon reduction initiatives

Under the Adaro Green pillar, AEI has been preparing several renewable projects, such as solar PV and battery energy storage system (BESS) in Kelanis, Central Kalimantan, a wind turbine and BESS in Tanah Laut, South Kalimantan, a mini-hydro power plant in Lampunut, Central Kalimantan, and a hydropower plant to provide clean energy for minerals processing and industrial activities at the green industrial park in North Kalimantan and to support Indonesia’s energy mix diversification. Currently, AEI’s green initiatives are best represented by the projects of its subsidiary PT Adaro Clean Energy Indonesia (ACEI), which has developed, is developing and is preparing to develop several renewable power plants.
